Help us fund diagnostic equipment for children with cancer

We need your help to fund a specialist piece of equipment for the Paediatric Haematology and Oncology Department at Motol.

Prof. Dr. Stary, the departmental head, has asked the Charity Gala Committee to contribute towards the cost of a Flow Cytometer.

Flow Cytometer

A Flow Cytometer diagnoses acute leukaemia by analyzing and identifying the exact type of leukaemia cell from which the leukaemia is originating and thus treatment can be targeted according to the cell of origin.

In short, blood from the patient is analyzed by the Flow Cytometer at the DNA level, and scientists can precisely see which cell is affected and adapt the treatment accordingly.

Childhood Leukaemia Investigation Prague (CLIP) Cytonomy Laboratory

The CLIP-Cytometry laboratory at Motol serves as a national reference laboratory for cytometric diagnostics for children diagnosed with leukaemia or where there is a suspicion of the disease.

For selected cases, the team at CLIP-Cytometry also diagnose children from other countries from across the EU as well as Switzerland, Israel and Norway.

The laboratory is well equipped, however, two of its instruments have reached the end of their life-span. As such, the laboratory plans to buy new instruments to ensure that routine diagnostics are effectively administered.

Funding Requirement

Due to the high cost of the equipment (c. 3.6 million CZK) the funding request goes to a centrally managed finance team  in order that it can be assessed against the other departments applying to upgrade or buy new equipment.

Prof. Dr. Stary knows that his department stands a much better chance of securing hospital funding if it raises part of the money itself. He has already applied for research grants and kindly asks if the Charity Gala guests would also contribute.

Finance from Motol will be combined with funds collected by foundations and the Charity Gala to purchase the equipment.

Please help us raise money for this very important diagnostic equipment.

Together we make a difference.

Auction prizes needed…

Dear friends

The preparations are well underway for the 2016 Charity Gala and to ensure its success we need your help.

Last year we raised nearly three million Czech Krowns for our charities and sponsored many life changing projects:

  • Department of Pediatric Hematology Oncology, Motol: Funds raised were used to purchase ward equipment to treat children with cancer.
  • Diakonie Center: Diakonie supports families of children with mental, physical and multiple disabilities. Money directed to this charity was used to renovate the garden.
  • Beroun Children’s Home: Beroun is a residential home for complex needs children. Our contributions funded horse-riding lessons, swimming lessons, pet therapy, music therapy and trips to the salt caves.
  • Skiing for the disabled: Donations were used to train a mono-ski instructor.
  • Pink Crocodile School: Pink Crocodile helps children with complex needs. Last year we sponsored new equipment.
  • Dedina Center: Dedina offers a support system for adults with impaired vision. Our money was used to support a program aimed at fostering greater independence.
  • Broken Silence Foundation: Broken Silence supports deaf children after their cochlear implant surgery. Money raised was invested in surgical equipment for Motol ORL.

Many of these initiatives are ongoing and need our continued support.

We are extremely grateful to our sponsors for their kind donations. Thank you to those who have already donated prizes for the 2016 auction. If you haven’t yet donated and are able to give an auction prize or something for our goody bags please get in touch. We’d love to hear from you.

We look forward to working with you to make 2016 our best year yet. For more information about our work please speak with any committee member or visit www.charitygala.cz.

Charity Gala 2016 – A Midsummer Night’s Dream

Dear friends

We hope you’re all enjoying your summer. We know that many of you start thinking about your table themes and costumes while you’re travelling so here’s a heads-up on this year’s event.

The theme for the Charity Gala 2016 is A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Here’s a photo of the winning pitch!

Winning Pitch

Twist and turn the theme any way you please.

Shakespeare famously sourced his work from myths, legends and masques. Feel free to bring in ideas from any of his plays and reimagine his characters any way you want, just as a theatre director would do.

You can also look to the Broadway shows that he inspired for ideas. The Lion King, Wicked and West Side Story are all based on Shakespeare’s works. As is Black Adder!

Comedy, tragedy, gender politics, heroes and villains. We expect it all.

Please mark your calendars for Saturday 3 December and join us for an evening of Shakespearean inspired shenanigans.

We look forward to seeing you all again soon.

With best wishes

The Charity Gala Committee

Thank you! We raised over 2.6 Million CZK!!

Thank you for joining us on an incredible journey to travel together “Around The World in 80 days”.

We are extremely thankful for your support with prize donations, ticket purchases, auction bids and pledges. Your contributions really do make a difference.

We are delighted to tell you that we again raised over 2.6 million Czech Krowns for our charities on Saturday night.

  • University Hospital Motol: The department of ENT/ORL treats congenital disorders of the Head and Neck, and Hearing. We will purchase specialist state of the art surgical equipment to enable finer surgical techniques.
  • Diakonie Center: Diakonie supports families of children with mental, physical or multiple disabilities. This year we will pay for renovation of the garden.
  • Beroun Children’s Home: Beroun is a residential home for complex need’s children. Our contributions fund horse-riding lessons, swimming lessons, pet therapy, music therapy and trips to the salt caves.
